Every week or so a friend and I go to lunch. This is a spiritual friend with whom I don’t have to guard my thoughts or words. We go to different restaurants to have a different experience in ambiance and food. But we always have the same experience in connecting with each other’s hearts. Spirit brings such richness and wealth of harmony to our connection we are each deeply touched.
We met at a small church when I first moved here in 2015. She lived in another place and moved close to where I live in Auburn a couple of months after I bought my home here. Both of our husbands had died; hers before mine, so we shared aspects of grief. There was a flow between us right away, as if our souls knew each other in ways that weren’t obvious on the surface. We would visit after church at the social gathering, then see each other at events, and one day one of us said, “let’s go to lunch.” This began a relationship that has grown in depth and openness that continues to evolve so effortlessly. We are each learning and growing through our spiritual and social connection.
Every time we leave each other after lunch, we both feel so joyful and full in our hearts as well as our stomachs. We celebrate each other’s successes and joys, as well as learn from each other’s opportunities for growth presented through family, friends, and situations in our lives. Spirit flowing through each word, each expression, and each energy field.
Finding a friendship at this level is rare and precious; one that I treasure as I know she treasures also. It comes from each of us doing our own spiritual work, being complete in ourselves, and accepting the gifts so freely given by the other. It comes from a trust in Spirit at all levels and a trust in each other that our friendship elevates all those who are recipients of the wisdom we gain together. We each are committed to making the world a better place beginning with ourselves.
So, on this and every day, I say thank you to Spirit for leading me on each step of the journey to this place where I am open, willing, and available to share the gift of this friendship from the heart.
Reggie, being an astute judge of character, loves this friend also. He lets her hold him on her lap and pet him as long as she visits or until she is ready for him to hop off. He treasures the genuine love she feels for him. She has three dogs of her own and he is aware of her sensitivity and healing abilities with animals. He knows she helps him at times, so she is special to him too. Spirit blessings us all. Nancy and Reggie♥
